We aged our 4-year-old straight rye whiskey for an additional 2 years and 10 months in Rio cider barrels from Maryland’s Distillery Lane Ciderworks, marrying the bright apple notes of cider with the signature spice of rye. Rio cider – a sparkling apple cider aged in rye whiskey barrels = pays homage to the pre-prohibition Maryland Rye whiskey distillery who famously sent barrels from the Port of Baltimore to Rio de Janeiro and back causing a rapid aging effect brought on by the travel conditions of going through the tropics. This product highlights the best of Maryland’s whiskey-making past with a spin on innovation and creativity. Tradition never tasted so good.
